Engagement story
Col and Jen went to Cyprus in September 2004. Colin had booked the most fabulous Hotel called the Cynthiana Beach, in Paphos. At the airport Cols best man Ste called Col, it now turns out he was calling to make sure Col didn’t chicken out!! On the evening of 14th September after a lovely meal and a few cocktails, they took a romantic walk along the hotels private beach. The sky was clear and full of stars and the sea was calm. All of a sudden Col went down on one knee, an open ring box in hand, and proposed to an astonished Jen. What was the romantic phrase that Jen uttered sweetly to the man she loves?....”OH MY GOD, are you serious? OH MY GOD you are, quick ask me again”. After the shock Jen of course did finally manage to accept Cols proposal. However Col will never let her forget her original comment. The ring known to friends as ‘The Sparkly’ is truly beautiful. Col chose it himself, with a little help from Ste and Sam. The ring holds 13 diamonds and does in fact, sparkle! The rest of the week the couple spent having one of the most fabulous holidays ever, one neither will ever forget.
The Party
Any one who knows Jen will know she is a sucker for a party, loving the organising as much as the actual party. The couple booked the Hatherton suite at the Roman way Hotel, Cannock for 20th November 2004. Many of the couples friends and family were there. Dancing and merriment went on all night. Some of the dancing was a little dodgy, Biker Dave danced with everyone, Col’s Mom and Dad kindly arranged for drinks for a toast and after Col’s neighbour pointed out he had to do a speech, Col’s brother and Col disappeared into the down stairs bar to write a speech, on the back of a menu. Of course Col could not resist embarrassing Jen by re-enacting Jens reaction to his proposal. Col’s Dad also made a very touching speech, giving Jen’s Dad a mention and saying nice things about Jen which made her cry (in a happy way!) A member of Jen’s staff, J ,won the prize for worst hangover! Good mate Kath bought Jen and Col a beautiful engagement cake and Jen’s best pal Trudy made one of her now famous chocolate cakes, which went down rather well. The couple were very grateful for all the beautiful gifts and cards they received, particularly the Microwave Alicia (Jen’s oldest mate, and bridesmaid) and family bought them, it has proved very handy and means even Col will occasionally cook tea!
